What month should you visit Telegraph Cove?
June brings some of the longest days of the year, increasing humpback whale activity, and a quieter feel before the busiest part of summer. It is a beautiful time for longer days on the water, although paddlers should still be prepared for cooler temperatures and occasional rain.
July is another favourite. Summer is in full swing, conditions are generally warmer, and wildlife activity continues to build. Humpback whales, seals, sea lions, porpoises, dolphins, bald eagles, and other seabirds can all be encountered throughout the region. Salmon also begin moving through local waters, contributing to the incredible abundance of life found around Johnstone Strait.
August can be spectacular for wildlife and offers some of the greatest diversity of the season, including increased opportunities for Northern Resident killer whale encounters. However, August can occasionally be trickier for paddling conditions because of the famous morning fog that has earned the month its local nickname, “Fogust.”
Of course, wildlife is wild, and sightings are never guaranteed regardless of when you visit.
